Accent WORD Password Recovery is a password cracker for .DOC files. It can crack two types of passwords often used in .DOC files, the open and modify passwords. It can crack the open passwords for all the Microsoft Word versions, but according to its website, it can only crack the modify password for Office up to its XP version.
In my testing, I was able to crack a modify password created using Office 2003, so later versions might work as well. The trial version of this app can only crack passwords of up to four characters in length. I used "dada". It is a very basic password, and the application cracked it almost instantly. I was quite amazed at the speed at which my password was guessed.
Accent WORD Password Recovery uses three methods to crack passwords. The first one is a brute-force attack, which uses combinations of characters to guess the password. It will use all the characters you select in any possible combination. The second one is a dictionary attack, which will try words in a TXT file to guess the password. The third one is what is called a mask, which is an advanced way of creating combinations of characters.
All in all, this tool works very well. It guessed a password in no time and it seems to support more versions than I believed. It is worth a try.
